UNITY THROUGH THE BELIEF
One of the main beliefs of the Unitarian Universalists (UU) is the concept of unity and acceptance. They integrate people and their beliefs from different places. The Unitarian Campus in Northwest Tucson also believes in the unity and acceptance of all interconnecting factors; such as sun, water, topography, people, and space. The campus unifies earth and building, by terracing in the earth around and throughout the campus, it unifies the man-made and natural landscape. Rammed earth symbolizes the purity and simplicity that the UU believe in while being a good building material in the southwest. The water is directed throughout and on to the terraces to flourish the campus; this creates unique exterior spaces which are to be used by either the public or by a smaller group. Topography is modified to find the balance between campus and nature, creating a passive communication between the two. The path through the site is easily accessible to all people; it leads the user through the program onto the nature path which leads to the self-reflection chapel. A perfect place to meditate as one watches the sunset disappear with the day.
